Girls Lacrosse Camps 2nd Half. Tie score. 12 seconds left in the game. Driving rain. So cold you can see your breath. You can feel the mud caked on your legs. You've just got the ball back at the twelve meter. Their best defensive player is between you and the goal, and the memory of her checking the ball out of your stick in the first half still lingers. You watch 12 seconds left, and you're wet, tired and hurt, and their best player is standing in front of you with fire in her eyes and you've got the ball in your stick and it's no secret that you're taking her to the cage; and you wouldn't have it any other way. Everything you've ever done has prepared you for this moment. Every shot, pass, check, goal, assist; all the practices and camps and scrimmages and games; all the wall-ball and time spent alone shooting, chasing down missed shots and shooting again. All of it. All of it has led to this moment, on this field, for these 12 seconds, and you're ready because you've done all you can to be ready. It's what you live for, play for, train for. It's your dream and your passion. And the secret you possess as you stare down your opponent, the alloy handle of your stick seemingly alive in your hands, is that the fire that burns in your eyes is brighter than the fire that burns in hers. The whistle sounds, and the world explodes... Selecting the Right Camp We get lots of questions about the difference between all the various camps that we offer. This should help break it down a little: The Full-Field Lacrosse Camps are designed to offer the best balance of full-field play and individual play. They're designed for the player who is looking for both individual training and team concepts. The Full-Field Camp offers the best balance between skills stations and full-field games. The Elite and Extreme Camps are designed to concentrate exclusively on individual, one-on-one positional play. There are very few full-field games at the Elite or Extreme camps. All of our camps end the day with our trademark IronWoman games, which are short-field, fast-paced 6-V-6 games designed to improve quickness and decision-making. So, though there might not be full-field games at some of our camps, all of our camps end the day with some sort of game-like activity. Our camps all work well on their own, but are also conveniently scheduled to run back-to-back so that a player can easily attend more than one camp. And yes, players attending different camps during the same session may room together. Camp Descriptions Girl's Session 1: Full-Field Session (July 18-22, 2010) Player's Choice Girl's Full-Field Team & Skills Camp The Player’s Choice Girl’s Full-Field Team & Skills Camp is a comprehensive training program for dedicated players, covering all aspects of women’s lacrosse, and focusing on all positions. This is the camp that has it all. If you're looking for the best balance of game play and individual play, then the Player’s Choice Girl’s Full-Field Team & Skills Camp is the way to go. We've considered calling this camp our "Game" camp, but we thought that it might lead one to think that it was just games and scrimmages and that would be inaccurate. The Girl’s Full-Field Team & Skills Camp is designed to cover as much of the game of lacrosse as possible. It's designed to focus on both individual skills and team concepts. It's designed for players who feel that they need to focus on all aspects of lacrosse. It's designed for players who might not have the opportunity to play a lot of lacrosse over the summer and need something that is going to give them a little bit of everything. It's designed for players who feel that full-field play is an important aspect to any program that they participate in. Lacrosse is a team sport and much of this camp is dedicated to those things that make a team successful, and those parts of the game that require a group of people to perform together to accomplish a like goal. The morning is dedicated to individual play and basic fundamentals. Our station sessions allow us to focus on four or five different topics each day, and by position. Stations might include shooting on the run, stick checks, draws, dodging from the wing, and ground balls. The emphasis in the afternoon is on team play and team dynamics. Afternoon topics might include fast-breaks, team offense, unsettled team play, clears and rides, and team defense. Our team session is followed by team practices and the first games of the day (each player competes on a team while the camp is in session). In the evening we play more games and finish the day with our IronWoman competition (short-field, fast-paced, 6-V-6 games). (Girls, ages 13-18) Player's Choice Girl's One-On-One Goalie Camp Goalies are important to us at Player’s Choice, and we offer excellent goalie programs at all of our camps. Our Player’s Choice One-On-One goalie staff, under the direction of Cornell University Coach and former Penn goalie Karrie Moore, will work with all of our goalies to cover all aspects of goaltending, including: position and posture, stick movement, surface play, outlet passing, directing the defense, defending the fast-break, making the break, reading the field, baiting, communication, and free position shot techniques. In the morning the goalies will work with Karrie and her staff in skills stations, and in the afternoon will join the Girl’s Full-Field Camp for scrimmages and games. In the evening they’ll participate in more full-field games and in our IronWoman competition (short-field, 6-V-6 games). (Girls, ages 13-18) Player's Choice Girl's Hannah Nielsen Shooting Camp There’s a quote from the ancient Chinese warlord Sun Tzu that we’ve been using for a long time at Player’s Choice: Invincibility lies the defense; the possibility of victory in the attack. Simply put, a capable defense will go a long way in keeping you from losing, but if you want to win you’re going to need to score goals. And nothing will help more in putting the ball into the net than a good shot. Hannah Nielsen, one of the most lethal offensive players in the history of the game (see a more complete bio for Hannah below under the Elite Offense Camp description) and her Shooting Camp staff will cover all aspects of shooting on goal. Hannah, who is now number-three on the NCAA all-time career points list, will break down the mechanics of shooting, emphasizing quickness, shot power, and placement. Our shooters will shoot until it hurts, working on aim, baiting & deception, shot speed, ground use, body positioning, shooting from a stationary position, shooting on the run, shooting out of the dodge, handling the feed (both good and bad), and shooting from difficult angles. In the evening our shooters will compete in our IronWoman games (short-field, 6-V-6 games). This camp is designed for experienced players of any position who need work on shooting, and is a great opportunity to learn from one of the game’s best. (Girls, ages 13-18) Girl's Session 2: Elite Session (July 22-25, 2010) Please note: the White Division (varsity group) of the Girl's Elite Camp will also serve as a Showcase Camp for those coaches on staff. Player's Choice Hannah Nielsen Elite Offense Camp Current Penn State coach Hannah Nielsen comes to Player’s Choice as one of the most celebrated players in all of lacrosse. A four-year starter at Northwestern University and three-time IWLCA first-team All-American, Hannah was a member of four consecutive National Championship teams and ended her career with the Wildcats as their all-time leader in points and assists, and as the all-time NCAA career assist record holder. She also holds both the NCAA Division I single-game assist record and single-season assist record, and her 398 points ranks her third all-time in NCAA Division 1 history. She started all 88 games of her collegiate career and finished with an overall record of 85-3. Hannah also captured both the Tewaaraton Award, given to the most outstanding player in NCAA women’s lacrosse, and the Lacrosse Honda Sports Award in both 2008 and 2009. A member of the silver medal winning Australian World Cup Team in 2009, Hannah was named to the All-World Team at the Prague Games. Hannah and her Elite Offense staff will focus on the most important aspects of scoring goals. Morning station work will break down proper dodging, feeding, and shooting techniques, emphasizing quickness and stealth, and in the afternoon the Offense Camp will integrate with the Defense Camp and Goalie Camp for 1-V-1’s, situational drills, and shooting stations. In the evening there’ll be more integrated drills and we’ll finish the day with our IronWoman 6-V-6 games. This is a unique opportunity to work up close with one of the most lethal and unselfish players in lacrosse history! (Ages: Girls, 13-18) Player's Choice Amber Falcone Elite Defense Camp Current Vanderbilt coach, USA Elite Team defender, and 4-time North Carolina All-American Amber Falcone heads up the Player’s Choice Elite Defense Camp for 2010. Amber is the first Tar Heel to earn All-American honors four years in a row, and in 2009 was selected the best defender in NCAA women’s lacrosse and best defender at the World Cup in Prague where she won a gold medal and made the All-World Team. Amber was a team captain in 2009 and led the Tar Heels to an NCAA Division I runner-up. Amber and her Defense staff will work up-close with our Elite defenders, focusing on all those things most important in stopping a goal and frustrating an offense. Position, footwork, defensive stick placement, stick checks, dictating the one-on-one, and defensive transition are just some of the topics that will be at the center of morning skills stations. In the afternoon our defenders will integrate with the Offense Camp and Goalie Camp for 1-V-1’s, 2-V-2’s, and other situational drills. In the evening there will be more integrated drills and we’ll finish the day with our IronWoman 6-V-6 games. This is a great chance to look at a vital part of the game from the viewpoint of one of the game’s great defenders. (Ages: Girls, 13-18) Player's Choice Morgan Lathrop Elite Goalie Camp Morgan Lathrop ended her career at Northwestern as the top goalkeeper in the school’s history and the programs all-time leader in saves (553). She posted a career record of 83-3 and won four National Championships. A two-time All-American, two-time American Lacrosse Conference Goalkeeper of the Year, Inside Lacrosse Goalkeeper of the Year, and multiple NCAA All-Tournament Team selection, Morgan has consistently performed at the highest level of women’s lacrosse and is the perfect choice to head up our Elite Goalie Camp. Morgan and her Elite Goalie staff will take our Elite goalies through the paces of becoming a better goaltender. The morning goalie stations will consist of lots of shots from our staff shooters and the emphasis will be on proper position, footwork, stick mechanics, and adjusting for terrain and weather. Our goalies will join our Elite Offense and Elite Defense Camps in the afternoon for a series of integrated situational drills and shooting stations, and in the evening will compete in our IronWoman 6-V-6 games. This camp is designed for experienced goalies looking to take their game to the next level and a chance to work up-close with one of the best goalies of all time. (Ages: Girls, 13-18) Girl's Session 3: Extreme Session (Aug 4-7, 2010) Player's Choice Sarah Albrecht Extreme Offense Camp Northwestern All-American, Team USA midfielder, and current Harvard University coach Sarah Albrecht will be the 2010 director of our Girl’s Extreme Offense Camp. While at Northwestern, Sarah helped the Wildcats to three NCAA Titles and was a three-time team captain. A current member of the USA Women’s Elite National Team, Sarah helped the USA win a World Championship in July of 2009 in Prague, Czech Republic. Before joining the coaching staff at Harvard, Sarah coached at the University of Massachusetts for two seasons and is a current member of the Brine Lacrosse Research & Design Team. Our Girl’s Extreme Offense Camp is designed for attack players and offensive midfielders looking to become more of a scoring threat. Sarah and her Extreme Offense staff will cover a myriad of offensive principles during the morning positional sessions, such as: off-ball movement, dodging, protecting the stick, feeding, shooting on the run, improving shot speed, free position shots, deceptiveness & stealth, draw control, setting up the play, and more. In the afternoon our Extreme Offense players will come together with the Extreme Defense Camp and Extreme Goalie Camp for a series of integrated drills. In the evening there’ll be more 1-V-1’s and shooting and we’ll finish the day with our IronWoman games (short-field, 6-V-6 games). A great chance to work with one of the best players and coaches in the game today and to become a more lethal offensive player! (Ages: Girls, 13-18) Player's Choice Gina Oliver Extreme Defense Camp Former Ohio State All-American, current US Elite Team defender, and Duquesne University coach Gina Oliver will once again be at the helm of our Girl’s Extreme Defense Camp. Gina and her staff will cover all aspects of defensive play and will show our defenders what it takes to take their game to the next level. In the morning they’ll work on individual skills and will cover defensive concepts such as proper position, stick-checks, footwork, sliding, double-teams, communication, controlling the draw, defending the one-on-on, clearing, and more. In the afternoon the Defense Camp will come together with the Extreme Offense Camp and the Extreme Goalie Camp for a series of integrated drills. In the evening there will be more game-like, situational drills and we’ll finish the day with our IronWoman competition (short-field, fast paced, 6V6 games). This is a great opportunity to finish the summer by working with one of the most exciting and charismatic women in lacrosse today! (Girls, ages: 13-18) Player's Choice Amy Altig Extreme Goalie Camp Former James Madison and two-time All-Conference goaltender, current Team USA goalie, and Princeton University coach Amy Altig will be overseeing our Girl’s Extreme Goalie Camp. Amy, one of the most respected coaches and players in the country, and her Extreme Goalie staff will cover all aspects of goaltending in an intensive program designed for goalies not afraid of a little hard work. In the morning the goalies will work on positioning, stick-work, angles, surface play, outlet passing, communicating with the defense, stick maintenance, footwork, and saving all kinds of shots. In the afternoon our goalies will come together with the Extreme Offense Camp and Extreme Defense Camp for a series of integrated drills. In the evening there will be more shots and we’ll finish the day with our IronWoman competition (short-field, fast paced, 6V6 games). This is a great chance to work with someone who is now coaching and still playing at the highest level of lacrosse today. We guarantee our goalies will leave Player’s Choice more prepared to face the shots ahead. (Girls, ages: 13-18) |
